BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The University of Central Arkansas men’s 4x400 meter relay team continued their 2012 success today at the Vulcan Invitational by finishing second out of 27 teams with a time of 3:17.65. That 4x400 meter relay team, composed of Demarcus Harrison, Sage Raphael, Kelton Ray and Chance Tanner set a new school record with the effort. The record was already held by that same group and it was last broken on Jan. 12, 2012 with a time of 3:18.94. Mississippi State’s “A” team won the event with a time of 3:16.97. South Alabama finished third behind the Bears with a time of 3:20.50. Shorter (3:20.52) and Memphis (3:20.59) rounded out the top five.
Congrats to the Bears...that's pretty damn quick.
Avg. sub-50 second 400 meters is tough.

Coach Martin is building his 400m runners group. We need to get into the 3:10 or better range (47.5 per 400) but never ignore improvement. Just for comparison , uaf and LSU ran 3:03 last weekend at the Tyson Meet but these are the two best relay teams in NCAA. If we can avoid injury and have some decent weather this spring, I would not be surprised to see a sub 3:14 (48.5 per) outdoor for the Bears.
Oh yes, a 50 is very much tough to do...never got there myself but pretty close for a distance runner...it feels like full bore sprinting every step...got to see Jeremy Wariner of Baylor/Nike run a sub-44 one day...I cannot imagine doing that....
