Friday afternoon saw the Bears go toe to toe with the best team the UCA Women will face this year. SFA, led by soccer Olympian Kiley Louw (South Africa), was held with out a goal in the run of play. The Lady Lumberjack 68th minute goal on a free kick was a near perfect shot bending toward the goal over the wall and slipping between Kelsey's glove and the post. The SFA team knows they had to fight for this win.
The game was delayed twice for lightning and was played in a cold rain. While not much for moral victories, a 1-0 loss to a team that has outscored their other three Southland opponents 13-0 (5-0,3-0, 5-0) certainly was not the sting of the 0-0 tie from the Friday prior.
On Sunday, the Bears continued a trend of rattling the pipes without getting the goal. Almost doubling McNeese in shots and having crazy 14-2 corner Kick advantage, the UCA women continued the scoring drought. They are getting the opportunities, but just not finishing the deal. The defense continues its strong show of keeping the team in the game while the offense gets past their scoring struggle. regulation time ended in a 0-0 tie, sending the game in to overtime. In the 9th minute of the 2nd OT (109th overall), Kristin Pollard crashed the goal on a corner and hit the golden goal securing the Bears' first conference win of year.
