Both teams did well in the opening meet. This is a regional meet with a mixture of SEC, Sunbelt, Ohio Valley and others. One source I heard from said the course was pretty soft from the rain, so times were not fast. This is a great place for an early season meet run around a large a soccer complex (ie, no hills) ending inside a nice stadium.

Good start in terms of places. Will need iimprovement for better showing at SLC Meet.

The SLC Meet is hosted by Lamar on Ocotber 26.

Solid outing at UALR meet last Saturday. Having three women in the 19:30 or better range for 5k and Top 5 under 20 minutes shows some depth. Gettng five runners withon 30 seconds is good team running. Now need to get better each week. Woemn run 6k (about 3.6miles) at SLC so they have to stretch these times out another 1000m.

Top 2 Bears in the 15:25 or better for 5k is a good early run but they will run 8k (4.92 miles) at SLC so these are still tuneups.

Teams are either running at the Missouri Southern Stampede this Saturday or the Missouri State CC. The Stampede is a very good regional meet that usually serves as the opener for Arkansas. Great course through rolling grassy fields near football stadium. Currrent Team USA 5k/10k standout runner Matt Tegenkamp won in this meet as a high school senior in an impressive 5k run in about 2000.

Southern Stampede at Joplin

Course was wet which added some time to all.

SugarBears were 9th and had two under 19 minutes for 5k and five under 20.....Top 2 in the hunt for solid SLC places but others need to step it up even more. Top 5 is 1:22 apart and that needs to be more like 30-40 seconds at SLC meet. Stephanie Simpson led the way at 18:36.

First run of year for men at 8k....this can be something of a rough place to do that and time showed it....got to get all into low to mid 25s by SLC. Team takes 6th and Amos Gerber led the way in 25:53.

Good outing at TAMCC for both teams.

It has been a long time since UCA had a 1-2 finish in a CC meet. Edward Limo won the 8K (4.92 miles) race in a time of 25:44.3, while Amos Gerber was second in 25:46.9.

The Sugarbears ran well as a team with three Top 10 finishes....Stephanie Simpson led the way for the UCA women, finishing fifth in the 5K in a time of 19:03.9. Courtney Efurd was eighth (19:13.9) and Kayla Nehus was ninth (19:15.8). The ladies Top 5 runners were with 47 seconds which is pretty solid. The narrower the spread the harder it is for others to get in between which is key at conference.

Next meet is SLC at Beaumont on 10/29...... finish Top 4 an they likely get to go to NCAA Regional n Fayetteville on 11/10.....

Tremendous perfromances by both teams at SLC Meet today.....

http://www.ucasports.com/news/2012/10/26/MXC_1026121227.aspx

Amos Gerber and Edward Limo ran lights out...both were Top 10 and All-SLC......Gerber's 24:14 for 8K (just shy of 5 miles) is probably a best ever by Bears and we have had some very good 8k guys in the old days....I have watched Gerber since the 8th grade and he is a fighter and hard worker....these would indicate they can run 10k at NCAAs in about 29:30 which would be extremely good finish..

SugarBears did very well.....SBears were solid for Top 5 which bodes well.....women run 6k (about 3.7 miles)....

Many congrats to Coach Martin and his harriers....break through year....

Bears rewarded with Top 10 South Central Region ranking.....this is historically a solid region with Arkansas, Texas, A&M and the like.....

SugarBears just missed Top 15.....maybe 16th......

Great job by both teams......

With the SLC Meet times the UCA records books changed some as follows...

Men's 8K
1. Amos Gerber, 2012 SLC - 24:14.70 (New record)
2. Dannyy Mann, 1987 OBU Invite - 24:19
3. John Kelly, 1969 AIC Champion - 24:21 (24:30 for 5 miles at old Hendrix Course)
4. Edward Limo, 2012 SLC - 24:24

Kelly's time was 24:30 for 5 miles (converts to 24:21 for 8000m) at AIC Meet that he won. Solid course that was for years the prime XC course in Arkansas.

Mann's time was on one of the fastest XC courses in Arkansas.....still is fast course..no hills..... good footing.....can be humid at OBU Invite each year....

Women's 6K

1. Lauren Merritt, 2007 SLC - 21:28
2. Stephanie Simpson, 2012 SLC - 22:18 (new #2)
3. Erika Setzler, 2012 SLC - 22:31.9 (new #3)
4. Kayla Nehus, 2012 SLC - 22:37.2 (new #4)
5. Courtney Efurd, 2012 SLC - 23:03.1 (new #5)

Great day for Bears at XC Regionals in Fayetteville...came in ranked 10th in Region and finished 9th....Limo finished 9th and is on the bubble for the NCAA Championship field...Gerber at 20th...excellent finishes....

SBs held their own being unranked (estimated 16th) ....

Congrats to both teams on much improved seasons and SLC/Regional finishes....
