HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE, Ark. _ The University of Central Arkansas women's golf team fired a final-round 291 on Tuesday to grab the title at the Little Rock Women's Golf Classic played at Diamante Country Club.

UCA, which had the lowest round of the day by six strokes, vaulted from sixth place to the championship, its second in four years at the tournament, and fourth consecutive Top 2 finish at the tourney.

Senior Emma Svensson, the medalist at the 2015 tournament, was the catalyst, shooting a 4-under 68 on Tuesday to finish fifth overall (73-78-68_219). Svensson, from Halmstad, Sweden, had six birdies and two bogeys on the day.

Freshman Tania Nunez tied for 13th place with rounds of 79-74-71_224, while freshman Elin Kumlin tied for 16th (76-77-74_227). Freshman Karley Whittington shot 75-74-80_229 and tied for 23rd, while senior Sally Fridstrom shot 80-79-78_237 and tied for 55th. Freshman Gracen Blount shot 74-82-81_237 and also tied for 55th

Missouri State finished second at 900, followed by UTEP (902), Western Kentucky (904), Lamar (907), South Alabama (909), Utah Valley (913), UMKC (920), Little Rock (925), Houston Baptist (925), ULM (927), Northern Iowa (931), UT Arlington (933), Arkansas State (943), Stephen F. Austin (956) and McNeese State (975).

By finishing ahead of Little Rock, UCA picked up two points in the "Governor's I-40 Showdown" and now leads the year-long competition 14.5 to 3.5.

BEARS FINISH 10TH AT ANTEATER INVITATIONAL (UC-Irvine)
2/11-12/2019

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. – University of Central Arkansas men's golf senior Luis Obiols bounced back from a tough opening day with a final-round 75, as the squad placed 10th at the Anteater Invitational hosted by Big Canyon Country Club, Tuesday.

The Bears struggled as a team on the final day, firing a 307 (+19) to finish the tournament with a 917 (+54), good for 10th place. UCA was without the defending Southland Tournament Champion in senior Lewis George for the event.

NOTABLES
Sophomore Miles Smith finished t-37 after firing a final round 81. Smith birdied the opening hole, a 351-yard Par 4, but could not find consistency the rest of the round.

Freshman Brett Daughdrill posted a +5 (77) on Tuesday. The finish was good enough to land him a top-30 result in his first collegiate tournament during the championship season.

Freshman Josh Turnock posted one of his best rounds as a Bear. He fired a +2 (74), including an even-par 36 on the front nine.
Quotes from head coach Steve Runge will be available as soon as possible.

NEXT ON THE TEE

It will be a quick turnaround for UCA as they travel to Patterson, La. next week for the Atchafalaya Intercollegiate hosted by Nicholls. Tee times for the event are still to be determined. Follow the UCA Men's Golf team on Twitter @UCAMensGolf.

"Following the conclusion of round two, Central Arkansas found itself nine strokes out of first place but managed to piece together a furious comeback over the final 18 holes. The Bears’ performance culminated in a team score of 283 (-5) in the final round and 882 (+18) for the tournament, earning the runner-up trophy for the third consecutive season. Senior Emma Svensson led the charge for UCA, tying for third individually with a 218 (+2). Central Arkansas knocked down 37 birdies throughout the tournament, with 16 coming in their final round."

"As one of the most decorated student-athletes in UCA history, Emma Svensson's storied career likely came to an end (there is still a possibility for an at-large regional bid) with a final round 71 (-1). Svensson finishes her time at UCA with 19 top-10 finishes, 13 top-five finishes and four individual victories and will go down as one of top women's golfer to ever come through Conway."

https://ucasports.com/news/2019/7/9/four-uca-womens-golfers-earn-wgca-all-american-scholars-honors.aspx

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – The Women's Golf Coaches Association has named four University of Central Arkansas women's golfers as 2018-2019 All-American Scholars. Emma Svensson, Sally Fridstrom, Elin Kumlin and Karley Whittington each were selected for their outstanding performances in the classroom.

With over 1,000 women's golfers recognized, the criteria for the selection requires student-athletes to have a cumulative GPA of 3.50, making it one of the most prestigious academic honors in the sport.

The quartet were all integral parts of the Bears fifth consecutive top-two finish within the Southland Conference. Svensson (3rd), Kumlin (10th) and Whittington (23rd) each posted stellar finishes at the SLC Championship in April to cap off yet another strong season for head coach Natasha Vincent's Bears.
