@North Florida

https://ucasports.com/news/2019/3/23/womens-track-and-field-uca-grabs-12-top-10s-at-north-florida-meet.aspx

The performance that got my attention was FR Thomas Cain running 14:55 for the 5k....that is about 14:20 for three miles which is solid D1 freshman time (about 4:46 per mile)….

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. _ The University of Central Arkansas track and field teams turned in 15 Top 10 performances and a school record this weekend at the North Florida Spring Break Invitational.

Senior Kylee Kirk broke her own school record in the hammer throw with a 146-4. Junior Erin Woodward finished second in the 1,500 meters in a time of 4:49.98. Freshman Hunter Henderson was third in the men's 1,500 meters in 4:00.99.

UCA's women's 4x400 relay team of Tyler Rose, Victoria Campfield, Aliyah Robinson and Ajah Criner finished fourth in a time of 3:52.62. Sophomore Logan Hall finished third in the pole vault at 2.02 meters (actually this is the HJ......, 6'7.5") while Jalal Taylor was fifth in the triple jump (13.97 meters).

Freshman Thomas Cain was a seventh in the 5,000 meters in 14:55.62. Sophomore Aysha Anderson finished ninth in the 100 meters hurdles (14:56). Criner also finished 10th in the 100 meters (12.13). Junior Ryan Yarde finished 10th in the 800 meters (1:54.99) while Luis Colon was 10th in the 400 meter hurdles (55.22).

UCA's 4x400 relay team of Yarde, Shamal Sullivan, Walter Reed and Sam Janski finished 10th (3:33.60). Sophomore Teshuna Sheppard finished 10th in the triple jump (11.15 meters). Luke Anthony finished fifth in the javelin (170-4), followed by Timon Dresselhaus in seventh (161-4) and Zac Bitton ninth (146-3).

UCA competes next at the University of Texas Relays in Austin, Texas.

COMPLETE RESULTS

@Texas Relays at UT-Austin

https://ucasports.com/news/2019/4/3/womens-track-and-field-freshman-hyde-earns-weekly-southland-honor.aspx

Congrats to FR Gacie Hyde for a fine outing in her first attempt at the 3k steeplechase...…….10th in the university division at 10:51.....in Top 100 so far this season...…….knock off 15 seconds and be Top 50 …...probably takes about 10 minutes to make nationals finals...….not likely this season but with this being her first steeple, the future could be very bright...…….

****
For the Bears, senior Markus Schweikert broke his own school record in the 5,000 meters on Thursday. Schweikert, from Spay, Germany, ran a 14:43.23 to finish fourth overall. He broke his own record of 14:45.53 set last year.

This about a 14:10 3 mile pace or about 4:43 per mile.........getting to a sub-14 for 3 miles is a key milestone for a college distance runner......certainly within range this season........

@MtSAC Relays

"Senior Markus Schweikert led a group of eight runners at the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays at El Camino College, setting a school record in the 10,000 meters with a time of 30:11.53. Freshman Gracie Hyde finished second in the 3,000 meter steeplechase in a time of 10:35.38, the best time this season in the Southland Conference. "

Great to have one of our distance guys get near 30.....this is a 4:50 mile pace for the 6.2 miles..........that would be about 29 minutes for 6 miles (I need to do some digging but I think Ricky Richardson ran about 29 in 1968...) ....the prior school record for 10K was set in 2018 by Preston Borg at 30:26.91..........

Gracie is really doing well as a freshman......she was ranked about 140th before this time which might move her up to Top 80........this is a tough race physically and mentally........this was her 2nd steeple race......not inconceivable she could get into NCAA Regionals with another race and improvement but that would be huge with only SLC meet left........she certainly could be in the hunt for SLC crown.....the school record shows as Abigail Topham in 2015 at 10:47.19...........however, I believe Erika Setzler as a senior won SLC in 2014 (in Conway) in 10:20.56 and ran in the NCAA D1 West Regionals in Fayetteville

SR Marcus Schweikert wins the 10k in 31:43 (abut 5:04 per mile) and FR Gracie Hyde wins 3k steeplechase (in her 3rd steeple race) at 10:27 to set a new stadium record...….wins by 15 seconds...…..big wins for Bears and SugarBears...…..

Jaron Hamilton takes 3rd in men's steeple in 9:09.....

More events tonight and Sunday....

FR Gracie Hyde runs a personal best and UCA school record in section 2 of the NCAA West Regional at Sacramento......one of only 4 FR to make the West Regional field....time of 10:19.85......does not advance to Austin but a superb time for a FR.....terrific season......

UPDATE: This time, had she made it to nationals, would have been Top 18...…..not last by far...……..took 10:00 to make it 0ut of prelims to finals and 9:58 to score points in finals……... for a rookie running the steeple, she is well within sight of that level...…….Go SugarBear!!

Congrats to all the track athletes...………….

CONWAY, Ark. _ The University of Central Arkansas had six student-athletes named to the Southland Conference Outdoor Track and Field All-Academic teams on Wednesday.

Senior Markus Schweikert (Spay, Germany) was an automatic selection after earning first-team All-SLC honors after wining the 10,000 meters at the SLC Outdoors. He has a 3.90 grade-point average in marketing. Schweikert is the school record holder in the 5,000 (outdoor) and the 3,000 and 5,000 (outdoors).

Juniors Jaron Hamilton and Jared Hamilton (Grand Prairie, Texas) were named to the team after recording GPAs of 3.82 and 3.68, respectively, both in exercise science. Jaron set a school record and won the bronze medal in the steeplechase at the SLC Outdoor.

On the women's side, senior Hannah Noble (Berryville, Ark.) earned her second SLC All-Academic honors and had a 3.86 GPA in marketing. She had a Top 10 finish in the high jump at the SLC Outdoor.

Senior Ajah Criner (Stephens, Ark.) had a 3.26 GPA in exercise science. She earned a combined 12 points with bronze medal finishes in both the 100 meters and 200 meters at the SLC Outdoor, setting a school record in the 200 meters.

Junior Erin Woodward (Little Rock, Ark.) earned her honors with a 4.0 GPA in health science/physical therapy. She finished in the Top 10 in the 1,500 meters at the SLC Outdoor.

Both top shelf in classroom and on the track...…….probably our three best ever in their events....would not surprise me to see an All-American from this group some day….

UCA TRACK SECURES ACADEMIC HONORS

CONWAY, Ark. _ Three University of Central Arkansas track and field athletes earned national All-Academic honors this week from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Association (UTSFCCCA). Both UCA's men's and women's teams were honored as well.

UCA's student-athletes honored include Alex Hanson of Thatham, England, for the men and Ajah Criner of Stephens, Ark., and Gracie Hyde of Benton, Ark., for the women.

To qualify for USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and have met at least one of the following athletic standards:

• For the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org.
• For the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).

Hyde, a freshman majoring in exercise science, earned All-Southland Conference honors in cross country, indoor and outdoor track and was the SLC Freshman of the Year in cross country and the Runner of the Year in outdoor track after winning two events.

Criner, a junior in pre-athletic training, set numerous school records in both the indoor and outdoor seasons and was a second-team All-SLC selection in indoor and a two-time third-team All-SLC in outdoor track.

Hanson, a junior marketing major, earned second-team All-SLC honors in indoor track after a runnerup and school-record finish in the 800 meters. He was also second-team All-Conference in cross country, helping the Bears win their first SLC championship last fall.
