HBU is on their way up...application submitted. Time for the Huskies to get serious about NCAA. Best of luck to the Huskies!

Look for HBU to get some SLC schools on that schedule...most important for Central Arkansas is that HBU plays mens' soccer. This is definitely a foe that UCA could play while also making the most of the Houston soccer market for recruiting... :)

HBU making move to NCAA Division I
School submits application, will leave NAIA at end of academic year
By MOISEKAPENDA BOWER

During the interview process that led to his hiring last August, Houston Baptist president Robert Sloan learned of the desire university trustees had in returning to the NCAA Division I level. On Wednesday, HBU took its first step toward that move.

Sloan announced that HBU has applied to rejoin the NCAA as a Division I member. HBU will end its affiliation with the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, of which it has been a member since 1990, at the end of this academic year.

"Membership in the NCAA will provide benefits and visibility for the university which will impact our students, athletes, coaches, alumni and the entire HBU community," Sloan said. "Athletics is an integral component of the college experience, and competition at this level is consistent with our desire to reach a higher standard of excellence in every aspect of university life."

well this ought to be fun to see how the next few years play out around the SLC...with UTSA, Lamar, and even TAMCC exploring football a little bit more, and HBU and others looking to move up to D1...the landscape of the Southland may change again in the near future...who knows

HBU ready for NCAA plunge
School will have probation period before Division I status finalized

By RONNIE TURNER
For The Chronicle

Houston Baptist University, which ended its affiliation with the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics at the end of the academic year, has been approved to compete at the highest level of college athletics.

The school submitted its application to the NCAA in April and is set to return to Division I competition for the first time since 1990...

Actually does the Mid-Con still exist? What's this rumor I hear about the Summit League? Is it UN sponsored or something? :)
