Apparently the Lions were the highest rated FCS school in Louisiana as far as recruiting went this past signing season.

Who was the highest rated FCS school in Arkansas this past signing season?

Recruiting rankings aren't worth much but we did have a nice haul and feel really good about the kids we're bringing in. We also had a good class last year and we're beginning to build up significant depth. If we get the kind of QB play I think we will, we're going to be much improved in 2007 and I think by next year, we'll be in the hunt for a playoff berth.

refresh my memory, but how long have you guys had your football program reinstated? Or am I getting SELA mixed up with another school?

First year back was 2003...went 5-7 the first year...went 7-4 in year 2004 with a 51-17 win over McNeese and a double OT loss to Texas State...went 4-6 in 2005 (first year full-time in SLC) with a 34-13 win over McNeese and a 45-24 win over Stephen F. Austin, lost a heartbreaker to Tulane 28-21...had a rough year last year with our coach having cancer, starting QB quitting football before the season started,and suffering through a bunch of injuries...we'll be much improved in 2007.

I thought that you guys hadn't had football for too long this go round. What is your stadium like? I dont think I have ever seen a picutre of it, and I dont remember passing it when I went to Hammond and the UC for basketball this season.

Strawberry Stadium was built in 1937 as part of the WPA program. Seating capacity is only 7,500 with permanent seating and just under 10,000 with temporary endzone seating, but it's as good as setting as there is in the Southland to watch a football game. We had Sprinturf installed in 2003 and are in the process of building a parking garage, new press box and luxury suites which will be ready in 2008. Word is we may be getting a video board for 2008 as well, but that's not official yet.

I recall that the football stadium is about a mile south of the basketball facility. Seems like it kind of sort of was pretty much surrounded by the campus. Baseball field was located across the parking lot from football.

Actually more like a half mile. The baseball stadium sits on the southeast corner of campus with Strawberry Stadium across the parking lot in right field.
