Obviously, we're new to the writers around the conference, but you have to believe thy're going to be a little more accurate than national preseason polls.
Quote:
Here is how Kevin Gore sees the Southland Conference playing out this season.
1. McNeese: Too much firepower to ignore.
2. Sam Houston: Rhett Bomar rested, ready.
3. SFA: Plenty of talent, depth for new coach.
4. Nicholls: Plain Jane that plays like Tarzan.
5. Texas State: Could be tough, by George.
6. Central Arkansas: SLC newcomer used to winning.

7. Northwestern: QB position on the upswing.
8. Southeastern La.: A year or two away from contending.

I can see McNeese and Sam and maybe Texas State, but I'm not sure about SFA and Nicholls. I will give SFA credit they played us VERY tough last year and they have alot of returners. They may be better than I think.

Burly Bear :)

Nicholls is a challenge just because I think they are the only SLC team that runs the triple option, which is not run too much around the nation anymore. But you get the right athletes in place to run that thing, and it reads like their FB is a hoss ( http://www.colonelsports.com/football%20releases/Cole%20CSN%20Pre%20al%20lamerican.htm ) then it is tough to stop. Especially when most teams only get 1 week to prepare for it and don't see it a lot the rest of the season. That and I think they are only two years removed from winning the Southland (shared it with Tx. State in 2005). Their football program is not nearly as bad as some of their other programs I don't believe.

SFA will probably win this year if that same team is coming back. They had a chemistry that UCA hadn't seen since that UNA team of the quarterfinals a few years back. I thought UCA handled SHSU so much easier than SFA. Maybe it's just a case of the other team just having the "chemistry" on a yearly basis to be able to beat your team. Kinda like Valdosta did with us even when they weren't the most talented. :)
