Three Southland Conference football players were selected during the National Football League draft this weekend.

McNeese State defensive end Bryan Smith was taken with the 17th pick in the 3rd round (80th overall) by the Philiadelphia Eagles.

Nicholls State defensive back Kareem Moore was the 14th pick in the 6th round (177th overall) by the Washington Redskins

Northwestern State offensive tackle Demetrius Bell was taken in the 7th round (219th overall) by the Buffalo Bills.

Hopefully we will hear some stuff this week on some Bears being picked up as free agents.

I've spoke to a few people today that seem to think that Tristan Jackson most likely will go the arena football route.

Things are always subject to change....

I'd heard CFL was a viable option for him. Anybody know how the pay scales stack up?

I put this on another thread...

Sam Houston had two sign FA contracts:

Scorpio Babers, S (5-11 190), signed with the Miami Dolphins. That gives SHS three on their roster. QB Josh McCown and S Keith Davis as well.

Brandon Hale, OG (6-3 311), signed with the Dallas Cowboys.

Bearkat fans expect All-American TE/H-Back Blake Martin to sign a FA contract as well.

I really liked the Martin kid. Good looking player.

Hope he gets a look.

Wishing all of the SLC guys well......sure hope TJ gets a chance to play at next level as his heart and smarts makes up for size....Smith from McNeese is the real deal.....I recall the fellow from Nicholls made a couple of plays vs Bears but also got beat some....maybe it was another of their d-backs....
