CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi is preparing its formal response to a letter from the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) citing alleged violations by the Islander athletics department.

The NCAA’s allegations detailed in the letter received Thursday, July 24, stem from the investigation that began shortly after the University received a notice of inquiry dated March 26, 2008. Possible violations were cited involving women’s volleyball, men’s tennis, men’s basketball, and the reporting of income earned outside the University by athletic department staff.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi undertook the investigation jointly with the NCAA. President Flavius Killebrew appointed an investigative oversight committee to ensure the NCAA easy access to the University’s people and records. The oversight committee has recommended the implementation of recent department restructuring for NCAA compliance and student-athlete academic advising now reporting to the University’s academic affairs division....

CORPUS CHRISTI — Texas A&M-University Corpus Christi spokesman Marshall Collins said that athletic director Brian Teter is no longer an employee of the university.

The university has called a 3:30 p.m. news conference in which university president Dr. Flavius Killebrew will address the media.

Teter’s tenure ends exactly two years after he was hired.

The NCAA released its notice of allegations against A&M-Corpus Christi last week, and Teter was mentioned throughout the report...

Brian Teter no longer is Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's athletic director, but his influence will be stamped on the department for some time.

Teter spent little more than two years with the Islanders, but the athletic department was hit with a high rate of turnover during his tenure. With that in mind, many of the employees still with the department are Teter hires.

Four of the department's eight head coaches came in while Teter was in charge. At least 18 current department members were brought in with Teter in charge...
