Nicholls is playing hard for their head coach, Jay Thomas, because this is his last game as Head Coach. Nothing official has been released, but this is the word on the bayou.

Not really. Nicholls is playing inspired football tonight, as this will be their coach's last hoorah. Apparently Jay Thomas is, or has, resigned...and his players love him.

They're gonna make sure he goes out strong.

Too bad they didn't show a little more love during the season. All that proves to me is that his team has been jacking around the rest of the season.

I wouldnt want anything to do with Nicholls or NSU athletics right now with their financial situation the way it is. Its a miracle they finished the way they did. Credit to the Colonels, its not easy being them right now from what I can tell.

As said by the two posters, Jay Thomas is out as Nicholls HC.

Jay Thomas Out

Quote:
HAMMOND – Nicholls State football coach Jay Thomas confirmed a poorly-kept secret only minutes after his team had wrapped up its 2009 season Thursday night.

The Colonels’ 45-30 win over rival Southeastern Louisiana was his swan song, as he will not be retained as head coach. An official announcement of his ouster is expected Friday morning.

Thomas was reportedly informed of his firing mid-week, a move that came as a surprise to the Baker native.

“I was totally surprised by it,” Thomas said shortly after Thursday’s win. “I had totally planned to stay in Thibodaux for a long time. My wife works at the university and both my daughters were born there.

“I just wish the next guy the best of luck.”

NewOrleans.Com had confirmed Thomas’ firing Thursday afternoon prior to the game.
