Todd Whitten was fired as head football coach yesterday. No replacement announced yet. Saw this in the LCD this morning.

I updated this thread title so that it can be used throughout the next few weeks for all coaching changes/rumors.

Speaking of rumors, I saw where TT mentioned Hud Jackson's name as a possibility at Nicholls.

I always hate this time of football season - but I guess it's a necessity.

Don't you just love it when all the conference schools want to steal your coaching staff...I guess that is the burden you bear when you have the best staff around!

Couple of interesting tidbits from around the SLC...

1. Todd Whitten fired as coach at Sam Houston State

2. Hud Jackson being considered for the Nicholls job (no surprise there)

Nicholls Update

Nicholls State - One name continues to come back to me: University of Central Arkansas assistant head coach Hud Jackson. The son of Sonny Jackson, the most successful head coach in Nicholls State history, makes ense for a program looking for renewed vigor.

JACKSON MAY BE A GOOD FIT AT NICHOLLS
Quote:
Immediately after Nicholls State fired football coach Jay Thomas, I thought about one name that would be the perfect fit in Thibodaux.

That coach is current Central Arkansas running backs coach and director of football operations chief Hud Jackson.

Nicholls State needs someone who knows the recruiting area, knows the conference and can run a more wide-open offense that is suitable for the talent in the state.

Hud went to E.D. White Catholic High and attended McNeese State. He coached high school football at Central Catholic High in Morgan City, Rayne High, Assumption High and Oberlin High.

He has been on former Nicholls State All-American linebacker Clint Conque's staff at Central Arkansas since the 2005 season, and he has some strong family ties to the Nicholls State program.

While he has no experience as a head coach at the college level, he seemingly is on the fast track to gaining a head-coaching spot somewhere in the near future.

I am not in the business of recommending coaches to athletic directors and administrators, unless asked, but right now, Jackson looks to be the right fit for Nicholls State.

Nicholls State: Our sources now tell us to look for Nicholls State to hire either Tim Rebowe (ULL assistant) or St. Charles Catholic HS head coach Frank Monica. Monica was a long time college OC, who for years owned the River Parish recruiting area. He is extremely well liked in the Thibodaux and New Orleans areas.

From the Monroe NewStar paper:

ULM's Weatherbie, Grambling's Spady among finalists for Nicholls job

Six finalists have come out of the lengthy interview process at Nicholls State, including two with local ties.

The list includes interim head coach Kent Keith, Grambling offensive coordinator James Spady, Central Arkansas assistant head coach Hud Jackson, ULL assistant Tim Rebowe, former ULM head coach Charlie Weatherbie and St. Charles Catholic head coach Frank Monica.

Keith is said to be a courtesy interview and is being rewarded for his service to the program. He was the longest tenured assistant on Jay Thomas' staff.

Spady is the lone minority among the finalists. Jackson's father, Sonny, was the most successful coach in Nicholls history, leading the Colonels to playoff glory in the 1980's. Rebowe was on the staff of Darren Barbier when the Colonels went from 0-11 in 1995 to the 1-AA playoffs in 1996.

Weatherbie was the head coach at ULM for seven seasons in Monroe before parting ways with the school earlier in the month.

Monica is one of the most successful high school coaches in the state and has experience as a college offensive coordinator at Tulane and USL.
