Ok Bears and SugarBears fans.... we need to get hold of how the SLC tourney works and get into the groove as we look to be there in the future....while baseball and softball need our attention this spring, let's finish basketball season by watching how the tourney comes out and how SLC teams do in the NCAAs.....I have added records and the Sagarin ratings at the end of each line....for example, 66 vs 58 ....note SugarBears ratings is 61...also, record shown is season, SLC and last five games....

Who should send flowers to SugarBears for not being eligible and letting another team in?

Exclude worst loss (UTA by 24)...avg drops to 7.63

SugarBears:

6-5
Won by avg 12.3 in 6 wins
Lost by avg 13.2 in 5 losses

Exclude worst loss (SELA by 27..how did that happen?)...avg drops to 9.75

Vs Top 3 seeds ....

3/12: Women's Championship

Lamar pounds TAMCC by 86-59 for the win, the big trophy and the invite to the NCAAs.

http://www.southland.org/ViewArticle.dbmltemp_site=NO&DB_OEM_ID=18400&ATCLID=204907371

The Cardinals missed their first seven shots as the Islanders (22-10) jumped out to a quick 6-1 lead. Once Lamar shook off the opening spurt of A&M-Corpus Christi, it responded with a dizzying barrage of 3-pointers that permanently swung momentum in its favor. In a span of 4:59, Lamar drilled five treys, including four on consecutive possessions. Hill hit the first three, while Jenna Plumley added the other two, which gave the Cardinals a 20-9 lead with 11:39 to go in the half.

TAMCC committed 22 TOs and shot only 30% from field.

Islanders end season at 22-10/14-5 while Lamar improves to 26-7/16-3.

Note: SugarBears beat Lamar by 92-77 at home and lost to TAMCC on road by 86-65 very early in the regular season.

Sagarin was 6-1 in women's brackets.

All-Tournament Team
Meghan Nelson, UT Arlington
Elisa Beagle, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi
Jade Davis, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi
Jenna Plumley, Lamar
Darika Hill, Lamar (MVP)

3/13: Men's Finals

http://www.southland.org/ViewArticle.dbmltemp_site=NO&DB_OEM_ID=18400&ATCLID=204907812

Sam Houston State wins 64-48 over SFA

Having watched the game on ESPN2, Sam looked like a solid team that put constant pressure on Jacks from the outset. SFA shot only about 34% from the field. Actually SFA played very good defense keeping SHS well below their 81 ppg avg (9th in D1); Jacks just could not muster any consistent offense.

Merrill Center looked pretty nice.... lower deck appeared pretty full.

SFA ended season at 23-9/13-6 while SHS improved to 25-7/17-2.

Sagarin predictor ratings went 7-0 in the men's tourney.

2010 All-Tournament Team
Anatoly Bose, Nicholls State
Eddie Williams, Stephen F. Austin
Jereal Scott, Stephen F. Austin
Gilberto Clavell, Sam Houston State
Ashton Mitchell, Sam Houston State (MVP)
