To lose by 51 and 30 for consecutive years somewhat indicates that maybe the SLC is lacking in talent on a nationwide basis. According to other posts, singular representation from the conference for the last five years and only one win. Looks like we got some ground to make up to get competitive.

I didn't keep up with the SFA-NOVA game so I had no idea what happened.
according to the SFA fan site, the Lumberjacks were up 21-7 in the first qtr. and
had a chance maybe to go up 28-7 but they muffed a punt and then they just
fell completely apart. To be up 21-7 and then lose 51-21 is a major meltdown.
Is nova that good or did SFA just self-destruct?

I watched the final three quarters. It was 21-7 when I turned on the game in the early seconds of the first quarter and SFA was moving the ball and scoring at will.

Villanova is well coached and play old school football. They RUN the ball very effectively and that opens up their play-action passing game. They have an outstanding all-purpose back named Scuzure (pronounced Ceasar) who was the MVP in last year's championship game. They run him a lot out of their wildcat formation.

At any rate, they stuck to their game plan, moved the ball to score and make it 21-14; SFA drives and settles for a field goal and then proceeds to self destruct. Two fumbled kicks, Moses throws three ints. (he had 4 for the season) and then the well coached, more physical team just keep coming.

Just goes to show you that you have to run the ball, stop the run, and keep the ball in front of you on defense to defeat these "spread" type teams.

I believe we would have beaten or come close to beating SFA this year if we had simply been more physical and ran it down their throats. Once again, Villinova had a superior OL.

Agreed. Definitely worked against TSU.

In a somewhat related post, Villanova took care of App. St. (the #1 seed in the playoffs) 42-24 at App. St. today. Nova is in the semis with their win.

I watched some of this game and and Nova was the more dominating team. They didn't look like underdogs to me.
