Read that UNA voted to move to D1. Southland bound? Replacements are needed aren't they?

More than likely.

From the Greenfield Indiana "Daily Reporter":
The proposal cited the Sun Belt and Ohio Valley conferences as possible destinations, but indicated the OVC — which also includes Jacksonville State — would likely be the best fit in location and cost.

The same article stated that with departure of the Arkansas schools from the GSC, there were now only 5 football playing DII schools within a 3.5 hour drive from Florence, but 21 DI schools in the same radius.

Obviously, they aren't joining the Sun Belt any time soon. UAB is more likely to join the Sun Belt at this point than UNA.

OVC makes sense with its proximity to Tenn. Their stadium seats over 14K and they have a strong football program so they look ready to jump to FCS. I was surprised to read how small their budget is and budgets in AL are tight.

They would make a nice trip for UCA and there is history there. With the departure of Texas St. and UTSA and the rumors that Lamar might be next, it wouldn't be a horrible move to add them to shore up numbers and they could compete right away.

I would love to have a nice OOC series with UNA (assuming that they will join the OVC). Those were some great games in Estes, minus the losses.

UNA rivalry goes way before it was UCA and UNA...they were always tough....as for football they are D1 ready (after a transition)...not sure about others sports....

I still am bitter of the last game they played at Estes (2006 maybe?). That so should have been intentional grounding...just saying

Not sure how you came across this thread from months ago, but agreed.
I'm also not sure how it came up, but jzpeepz and I were discussing that this weekend. Even though I was no longer a student, I was in their section for the ending of that game. And I'm pretty sure they thought I was nuts. I was not happy.

There is no doubt about it... Vinny Saylor just threw that one away. Horrible no
call from the official. kept us from possibly advancing in the playoffs.

Yes, I was there as well. And yes I was on the rail at the end of the game screaming at Vinny "Doughboy" Sailor. He had plenty of not so nice things to yell back at us UCA fans as well.

I can't stand UNA because of that game and I'd love an opportunity to play them again on a regular basis.

Well I haven't checked the entire board in a couple of months. Usually just check the football thread.

I will say I hated UNA after that game as well
