An ORU fan here: I've been reading with some interest (and even more confusion) the published reports this weekend that Texas-San Antonio and Texas State are backing out of their planned moves to the WAC, opting instead for C-USA and the Sunbelt conferences, respectively.
Reportedly, though, it wouldn't be until 2013.
No word yet on UTA, but hard to imagine they would follow through on joining a conference that may not even be in existence after this coming school year.
So, where do all three schools wind up playing basketball and baseball this coming season?
If any or all stay in The Southland for one more year, can anyone tell me what that would mean for ORU joining the Southland as planned on July 1, for competition this coming season?
Is there still room for us, literally and figuratively?
Or, have those three schools already screwed the pooch in terms of an additional SC year, and are stuck as independents in basketball (and everything else) this coming school year while they await their 2013 debuts in C-USA/Sunbelt/whatever?
I would think and hope that ORU would be in...no questions asked. UTSA and
Texas State should be the ones on the outside looking in. After all they decided
to jump to the WAC...nobody forced them to leave. Let them play this year as
an independent. Most of, if not all Southland Schedules are probably already
set. I know the UCA football schedule is set and Texas State is not on it.
