He must be a heck of a salesman
His lack of success? For the vast majority of his career, everywhere he's gone his defenses have consistently been among the nation's best. Not only did he help turn lil' ol Southern Miss into a defensive powerhouse, he even had your beloved Razorsnootpiggieswinebacks second in the nation in pass defense one year. Now, his stints as head coach and athletic director were absolute train wrecks that many people wish could be erased from history, but you can't really deny the man his success as a DC.
That being said, the trend of big Division I schools picking him up seems to be on the decline. Ole Miss was struggling mightily and Orgeron was captaining a fast-sinking ship, so that wasn't a real quality job to begin with (was he taking that knowing Oyoyoyoyyoofootball was going to get canned, and angling for the head coaching job?). And now?
Now he's a defensive coordinator at the mighty Georgia State ... which doesn't even begin play until 2010. That's hitting the jackpot. Quite the Razorback flavor to that coaching staff with he, George Pugh and John Bond all on board over there. What's also interesting about that situation is that Bill Curry might not live until the program's first game. He will turn 68 midway through their first season. Maybe JT sees a head coaching position opening up real soon.
