Should politics or congress be involved in sports?
What are your opinions?

I don't think so, but now that the Dems are in charge the government is going to try and control everything

I agree! There are alot more pressing issue than fixing the BCS system.

well, at least they have some semblance of a legal argument for going after the BCS. this will all go down under the guise of investigating whether federal antitrust laws have been violated.

not saying it's a good expenditure of time and resources, but with Utah's attorney general already getting the ball rolling, it's not surprising. what's going to be interesting is whether or not this will actually go anywhere, and if it does, what the split will look like in congress. i'm betting the great divide won't be along party lines, but rather, along the Mason-Dixon line.

Why can't they do both? They have enough staff and authority to handle it. With all the crappy littel resolutions they waste time on they could fix the BCS as well.

Spoken like someone who's worked in government before and wasted time on little things. I'm guessing.

Yes, but only if they get good seats.

15 U.S.C. Section 1 - the Sherman Act.

It's what you need to know....

Although this obviously violates the Separation of Church & State doctrine. After all, college sports are clearly a religion to many, so the government should keep its hands off of the ball, so to speak :D

Along these same lines is the fact that ALL conferences should either play a championship game or NONE of them. Not having to play that extra game has helped Pac-10 and Big-10 teams for decades, and has actually hurt some Big-12 and SEC teams.

Maybe hurt them in winning BCS championships but certainly not hurt in the money department......

Absolutely not. Have you ever noticed all of the pork barrell projects they waste time on? The "big issues" are not problems because they don't have time, they are problems because politicians either have no idea how to fix them or they can't agree.

Fixing the monopoly that is the BCS is simple and virtually everyone looking at it from the outside can agree on how easy it is to fix.

Here you go. Every conference champion gets in and there are 5 at large spots for a committee to select. 4 weeks. Most teams in D1 have no worries about missing class and all the other BS excuses that presidents use because 104 teams are out of the playoffs. You may have to eliminate conference championship games but those are stupid anyhow and only a financial endeavor. You keep the bowls for the 2nd, 3rd, 4th place teams from the conferences (sort of like the NIT) since all of the bowls but a couple have no bearing on the national title already.

There, done. Let's go get some steaks and drinks on the lobbyists' dime.

That's a boi "only".....latest excuse from BCS presidents is that they do not want NCAA to be like NFL with playoffs......
