This puts Marquez behind Peyton Hillis in Denver as a fb/hback.
Who knows what's going to happen with that offense with an entirely new regime/system/quarterback.

This is our Hillis clone, in case the unthinkable happens. Good receiver, excellent blocker with plenty of pop, and has experience as a true H-back. Not as supremely talented as Hillis, but a scrappy guy who will surprise any team that takes or faces him.

The Broncos drafted a TE in round two, but did not draft or sign anyone else that really fits the FB/Hback role.

----------------------------------------------------

The Jags also signed QB Tyler Lorenzen, Connecticut as a free agent. They did NOT draft a quarterback. The NFL.com page for the Jags shows that they needed a QB too, so it's interesting that they didn't take one at all.

Don't be surprised if a quarterback is the Jaguars’ first-round pick, especially if Mark Sanchez is available

UPDATE: Pretty much what I said is also found here in the ADG story.

UPDATE2:
Quote:
Jacksonville drafted another college quarterback, Nebraska-Omaha's Zach Miller, in the sixth round Sunday and planned to have him play tight end.

The Jags have Lorenzen listed as a Tight End, not Quarterback, so it's likely they will try to convert him to that position, just like they're doing with Miller, from Nebraska-Omaha.

Jacksonville only carried two quarterbacks on it's active roster all last season: David Garrard, and ASU Alum Cleo Lemon. Former Tulsa QB Paul Smith stayed on the practice squad all year, and is still with the team. Nathan is the only QB added to the roster expected to play that position.

Nathan and Smith with likely compete for the 3rd string/practice squad QB spot in training camp and the preseason. My money's on Mr. Brown to outplay Smith, and who knows, he may blow by Cleo Lemon in Jacksonville just like he did in all the state college record books.

Anybody been on the Jags fan board? They have a thread about Nathan. And not very good things being said about him.

http://forum.jaguars.com/index.php?showtopic=669732

I particularly like the post from the guy who said Nathan didn't belong at the Senior Bowl.

Let's hope Mr. Brown can prove them all wrong!

It still blows my mind that people think Nate has a "noodle arm". The kid has a bazooka arm. Especially in the short to mid range game. These Jag fans will be so impressed. Go get 'em Nate!

Congrats to Nathan and Marquez. Coach's comment on ucasports.com describes the situation perfectly...just think that Antonio Gates was not drafted.

Awesome picture on ucasports of Brown to Branson. Can someone copy over to this thread as a memento? (My computer has crashed and not able to do much on the loaner I get to use every once in a while).

I wonder how many of these were original signees like Nathan Brown, and not transfers like Bomar. Take 'em however you can, but signing and developing a future NFL prospect is a lot more impressive than recruiting a transfer....IMHO

Thanks for the pic.....

Jags fans may think he is another QB from up north....they will likely be pleased by this one when the time comes....maybe he did not "belong" in the Senior Bowl but he had the best game of any QB there ....

Bronco fans may be surpised at the talent they get in Branson....

Huh? What is the significance of his geographic origin? If by "up north" you mean the likes of Tom Brady (Michigan), Joe Montana (Notre Dame), Dan Marino (Pitt), John Elway (Stanford), Warren Moon (Washington), Drew Bledsoe (Washington St.), Donovan McNabb (Syracuse), Ben Roethlisberger (Miami, OH), Kurt Warner (Northern Iowa), Joe Flacco (Delaware), and so forth, then I think Jags fans would be absolutely ecstatic to have another QB from up north.

Jags fans were knocking another QB they drafted from Arkansas(Matt Jones). That is what he meant from a QB up north(AR). :)
