McNeese State and LSU have signed to play a football game in Tiger Stadium on Oct. 16, 2010.
It’s a milestone for collegiate football in the state of Louisiana as McNeese will become the first in-state FCS team to ever play the Tigers. LSU will also bring in Northwestern State for a game on Sept. 10 in 2011.
The Cowboys and Tigers have met on the field of battle in other sports such as basketball and baseball on almost a yearly basis.
“What an opportunity! This matchup is exciting for our student-athletes, coaches, fans, and community. It is certainly a game that everyone in Southwest Louisiana will be looking forward to with a lot of anticipation,” said McNeese athletic director Tommy McClelland. “I want to thank the LSU administration for making this happen; they have been great to work with.”
LSU vice chancellor and director of athletics Joe Alleva said,
“by scheduling McNeese and Northwestern State, we are keeping money in-state and at the same time providing financial assistance with the game guarantee to two of our fellow universities here in Louisiana. It makes sense for us to play games against in-state school when our schedule allows rather than bringing in an FCS school (formerly 1-AA) from another state.”...
