You know, having played high school ball and even worked a little with the practice squad in college (which doesn't make me a coach or expert I know ), I wouldn't worry so much about rebounding if the team got dominated a game or two. But its been more than that. It's a long season.
The red flags came up:
1. Coach started the year with a warning.
2. We were out-rebounded by 20+ a game to start the year.
3. Watching these guys in person, especially the big guys, made you realize as a fan they were soft. Smaller guys on other teams are powering their way into the boards to get rebounds.
4. There is NO team leader. They are just running plays. Will anyone step up?
5. No aggression. We shoot 3s well enough, but that is NO way to game plan. Plus its very difficult to rebound a ball with that arch. Usually gives a high bounce.
As a fan I understand we started over completely from scratch. I also know there is at least one player joining us at midterm and we will have our struggles. That's cool. As I watch other SLC teams defeat and nearly defeat high ranking schools like Gonzaga I gotta wonder if this type of play will be the theme for the year. Let's get a floor general and some board aggression.
