http://www.lionsports.net/news/2017/9/10/football-bethune-cookman-outlasts-lions-28-23.aspx?path=footballSLU fell to Bethune-Cookman last week by 28-23 as the visitors scored 14 in Q1 and in Q2. BC pulled an upset as Lions were favored by 13. BC is from the Mid-eastern Confernec of which NC A&T is the current highest rated team...BC would be about a 10 point favorite over Florida A&M for those who keep up with sports in Arkansas.
They fell on the road to the Ragin Cajuns 51-48 in Game 1 and tied at 35 at half. Lafayette was favored by 17 and escaped with their life.
The biggest lesson from this is that favored or not, the game has to won. Lafayette would be a BIG regional matchup with lots of history dating way back........BC probably did not see the level of excitement........UCA will as this is conference opener after a disappointing home loss ....plus CC played at SLU before Troy.........our advantage is playing on road not new and we usually play well away......road to playoffs starts now for sure..........SLU always has good athletes and lots of speed......... as usual they have a SEC size o-line.......some transfers from places like Texas A&M, Utah, South Carolina, Purdue .at least did not see a former starting QB for Oregon.........this will not be Murray.........they have Nicholls, SHS and McNeese later so this may be a make or break game for them.........
Lions avg 6.7 per rush and held BC to only 3.4............total rushing was 198 v 128....need to stop the run...........however, they managed only 98 yards passing with three INTs vs 354. Kickoff returns avg 31+.punerer avg 41+.....made 3/3 Fgs...... .we need good special teams play.............each team was 4/4 in red zone..........only 4/12 3rd down conversions vs 4/13......QB Donovan Isom (6'5, 245) had 86 of 198 rushing yards.
Ran for 343 vs RCs and gave up 201........passed for 171 v 162......gave up 57 yds per KO return and two TDs......both teams 100% in red zone......Lions 10/17 on 3rd down.........
